Hiring Tips for 2022

As the economy continues to improve, you might find yourself ready to open a business of your own or expand an existing company that you’ve been able to keep open through these last couple of years. After all, having the right staff can help you achieve your goals and maintain your growth for the long run, so taking steps to hire the right people is key.

With so many people looking for employees in 2022, and a lower number of people looking for work, you might not be inundated by resumes as soon as you post about your job opening online. So, how can you be sure that you’ll make the best hiring decisions even if you don’t get as much interest as you thought you would? Below are a few things to consider.

First, Make Sure Your Job Description Is Written Well

One way to help ensure you’ll attract the right types of job candidates is by writing a clear yet concise job description. This isn’t something that you want to rush through. Instead, it is something that you should spend some time thinking about. And if you aren’t confident in your ability to articulate what you need, don’t be afraid to ask someone for help.

Be transparent about what expectations you have for your workers, what the salary range will be for the position, and which hard and soft skills will be required. The more you can share about the job, the better, and doing so will hopefully weed out those who wouldn’t be a good fit.

Carefully Read Through the Resumes and Cover Letters You Receive

It might be tempting to quickly skim through the applications that are submitted to you for your job posting, but it’s wise to go through the information carefully. The hiring process takes time, and cutting corners might cause you to end up with people on your team who aren’t the right fit after all.

While you can certainly use a program to help you sort through the many resumes you receive, you’ll still want to look at the top candidates closely. And, again, if you need to ask someone on your staff to help you with this, especially if you are running a small business, you can certainly do that to keep things as simple as possible.

Verify the Information Provided by an Applicant

Before you decide who to call for an interview, it is a good idea to look into the applicants who are interested in learning more about your job offering. If you asked for references or they were provided without you even needing to ask, contact those people to gain some insight into what that applicant is like in the workplace. You can also use Nuwber to verify that the contact information that was provided on the job application is accurate and truthful.

Once you know that someone has the right qualifications and skills, along with references who can confirm that they have a positive and strong work ethic, you are likely going to feel much better about asking them to be interviewed. From there, you can ask them additional questions to get to know them even better.

Go with Your Instincts

Once you meet someone for an interview, you can really start to sense whether or not they would be the right fit for your company. Consider how they present themselves, how they speak, and how you get along with them during your chat. Use your instincts, while also considering the candidate’s education and work history, to come to the right conclusion about whether or not to hire them.
