The Green Bay Packers are all but locked in to finish the NFL regular season with the best record of all, and quarterback Aaron Rodgers is the man responsible for much of that success so far.
And for the first time since league legend Peyton Manning went back-to-back in 2008/09, Rodgers looks set to successfully retain his NFL MVP award.
That’s according to the latest sportsbook odds at least, with the -400 favorite acres ahead of nearest rival Tom Brady, a three-time winner of the regular-season prize and reigning Super Bowl MVP.
It just so happens a win this year would draw Rodgers level with Brady on three regular-season gongs, not to mention it would make him only the fifth player to lift the trophy in successive seasons.
Cleveland Browns legend Jim Brown was first to join that club when he lifted the inaugural two awards, with Joe Montana, Brett Favre and Manning having since gained membership.
The American Reporter considers Rodgers’ chances as he looks to become the latest in a line of legends, not to mention a pick of betting offers to help maximize your NFL MVP wagers.
Aaron Rodgers (-400)
A race that not long ago looked open now appears to have only one horse competing since Rodgers has pulled clear of his peers in the MVP pecking order.
The Packers were no certainty to win the NFC North when they entered Week 14 as a 9-3 team, having lost two of their last four games at the time.
However, head coach Matt LeFleur’s men have now won five in a row and are en route to a third straight NFC Championship match, with former receiver Nate Burleson under no illusion as to whom deserves the most credit:

Rodgers, 38, has thrown only 35 touchdowns this season compared to Brady’s 40, but the Packers superstar has surrendered only four interceptions all season—one third of Brady’s tally.
A 14th quarterback MVP-winner in 15 years looks nailed on given eight of the 10 players with the shortest bookmaker odds are passers, and Rodgers has been priced way ahead of the pack.
Tom Brady (+600)
If there is any player who’s certainly worthy of crashing the party, however, one would guess it’s the man with five Super Bowl MVP awards to his credit—at least two more than any other player.
It’s somewhat surprising Brady has only three regular-season MVP crowns considering his former dominance with the New England Patriots, though the 12-4 Buccaneers haven’t been without their faults.
That being said, if there’s any one player who has more consistently stood out as one capable of turning the tide almost at whim, it’s Brady.

Though Tampa Bay went missing in a recent 9-0 defeat to the New Orleans Saints, +600 MVP pick Brady has stepped up to seal nail-biting wins over the Bills and New York Jets in the past month.
The 44-year-old hasn’t lost to Week 17 opponents the Carolina Panthers since moving to Florida, and if there’s any player capable of toppling favorite Rodgers, Brady’s odds could prove understated.
Jonathan Taylor (+700)
One of only two non-quarterback contenders challenging the establishment for MVP honors, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has been a revelation in his sophomore season.
With just a Week 17 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars to go before he turns 23 on January 19, Taylor is in need of a breakout game if he’s to collect another piece of history, however:

The former Wisconsin Badger leads the NFL in overall touchdowns this season with 20 (18 rushing, two receiving), a substantial improvement on the 12 he crossed for in his rookie year.
The +700 odds may not be tempting enough to tilt bettors expecting the quarterback trend to continue, but Taylor looks most capable of an upset if we’re to look beyond passers.
