E. Alan Fleischauer’s book ‘Just Die’ literally roared on to the bestseller list, and it was well earned, delivering readers a book that keeps them enthralled and dying to see what happens next throughout this oh so very epic read. Fleischauer is particularly gifted at creating compelling characters that draw readers in right from the being and crafting killer plots that keep the action moving at an exciting clip.
In ‘Just Die’ readers meet Jake Silver, a successful young financial advisor, who sells his business, suffers a mild stroke and ends up in the hospital. Thanks to some clot-busting drugs, he recovers rapidly, only to find he has changed. How? Great question. When he can point his finger at anything — red squirrels, marauding coyotes, drug lords, and dictators –they just drop dead on the. A plethora of Intriguing events unfold and Jake has to decide whether to use his powers for the good of the country or something else – and the action ensues.
‘Just Die’ is a clever, fast-paced, and engaging thriller that will have you wanting more – it’s just that good. Recently we had a chance to chat with Fleischauer about his work, and what’s next from this talented author.
You drew upon your own life story when developing the storyline for this book, as well as your protagonist Jake Silver. What was that like for you?
Well, they say write about something you know and Jake Silver was a Financial Advisor, as am I. Additionally, I had a mild stroke many years ago, as did Jake. I am a Green Bay Packer fan (I grew up in Wisconsin) and I wanted to include a former Packer in the storyline. As to what it was like for me? It was a good start I suppose, the rest of the characters fed off those two protagonists.
Writing a thriller is very different from writing a western. What made you want to give writing a thriller a try, and why do you love it so much?
LOL, the honest answer is that my western editor was getting overwhelmed. My dear wife suggested I do a thriller with another editor and ‘Just Die’ was the result. I like writing different genres, including short stories, illustrated children’s books as well as westerns and thrillers.
When you did the final read-through for this very dynamic book, what was your favorite part of the story and why?
The ending came together so very nicely. I had intended for the book to continue but it seemed like a wonderful ending.
Many people that have read ‘Just Die’ have commented on the surprise ending.
Some writers include hidden nuggets in their plot that readers may miss unless they are looking carefully. Have you included any in ‘Just Die’?
I do like to have a twist or two in my novels. I am a fan of classic rock and I will put lyrics in a book as a phrase.

I’m sure your fans will be happy to know you have another book in the works. Can you tell us about what that book is about?
I just finished the first part of a Western Trilogy – ‘How the West was Won then Lost Book One: Decimation’ It is in part about the decimation of the beavers. The second book will be about how we killed over forty million Buffalo. When we were done with the slaughter there were only 325 bison still standing. Amazing.
