For My City By JCT A Track Dedicated To Toronto!

Toronto has long ago secured a place on the music industry map with big time artists such as Drake, Justin Bieber, The Weekend, Shawn Mendes and more calling the major metropolitan city based in Ontario, Canada home.

But another artist from the 6ix is starting to make some noise with extremely unique music, sexy videos, and boundary pushing ear bending sound. Luso Canadian recording artist JCT continues to drop single after single that sound poised to break through.

For My City a single dropped by JCT in 2020 dedicated to Toronto is another one of these!

The beat is catchy, the lyrics are spot on, and the delivery brings everything together in a harmonious way. A real ballad shouting out a city already on the world stage has been nicely crafted by this artist. But it turns out Toronto wasn’t the only city this track was built around. When we spoke to JCT, he says this was originally destined to be a Toronto/Boston collab with another rapper based on the East Coast.

“Originally the idea I had for this track was to do a Toronto & Boston shoutout. I love Boston! Love the east coast down there. Have a bunch of family and friends down in the Massachusetts area and wanted to do something for them showing my love for them but also remembering home which is Toronto.

I have a friend who’s a gifted rapper down in Fall River and we had set out the plan and idea for this track after attending the International Portuguese Music Awards in New Bedford.

We laid down some of his vocals up here in Toronto when he was in town for a show, and we had a base for the track. But we hadn’t ironed out the business side of things yet, so we just couldn’t finish the track. I decided to save his vocals for another future collab, and I would finish off the track for just Toronto myself instead.

Usually, I record my own vocals in my studio, but for this one I wanted to enlist a big-time studio from Toronto to handle the engineering part while I just focused on being in the booth. So, I reached out to an old friend Darius Szczepaniak from Phase One Studios to handle that for me. Me and Darius go way back. We met 15 years ago at Metal Works Studios while he was engineering a freestyle track for another freestyle artist friend of mine. I remember thinking at that time, someday this guy is gonna record my stuff… And here we are, life has come full circle!

I already had the beat and lyrics ready. It was just a matter of laying down my vocals and getting the track finished with industry standard mixing and mastering. Darius took care of all of that for me and he did a bang-up job! We’ve worked on a few tracks together and there’s more coming…

As for the track itself I just wanted to touch on whatever I could that would be synonymous with Toronto. I love Toronto. It’s home. Regardless of where I go in the world there is no better view then seeing the CN tower from the air when I’m landing back here. This is such a spectacular place.

For My City touches on everything from Niagara Falls, CN tower, centre island, the major highway in and out of the downtown core know as the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), and shout outs to local sports teams like Toronto FC, the Raptors, Jays and even the historical Toronto Maple Leafs.

The hardcore Leaf fan says, I think everything I touched on in the track is fact accept one thing. The Leafs winning a cup next. Hasn’t happened yet but I know it’s coming. I watch this team closely. I’ve been watching them train in the summers for almost 20 years. I’ve met some of the old timers. This is the best collection of talent we’ve had in my lifetime and it’s only a matter of time. Hopefully, they keep all the young guys together. I honestly can’t wait for that day. The Stanley Cup parade will be a thing to witness. People from all over the world will come to see it. This is the Hockey Mecca of the world bar none and people have forgotten because they haven’t won in so long. But it’s coming!

As for the collab with Boston, JCT says sit tight.

“We’ve ironed out the business side, so let’s see what drops in the next little while.”

Filming has already begun on the music video for the single For My City but Covid 19 has stalled some parts still to be filmed. We’ve been told a music video will be released for the single but no word on when.

I’ve got a lot of irons in the fire right now and I’m trying to shoot some specific footage from specific locations in and around Toronto that with Covid, has been tough. We’ll get around to it at some point, he says.

In the meantime, lookout out for more new music and videos coming from JCT. He’s already dropped 3 singles in 2021 with more on the way, so stay tuned!

For My City is available to download and stream on all digital platforms like iTunes, Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, Amazon Music, and more.
