If you’re getting an e-bike for exercise, you must choose a bike that offers enough power to help you meet your goals. For example, if your goal is to lose weight and get in shape, find a fat tire e-bike with enough power (500 watts or more) to make it easy for you to reach 20 mph on level ground and complete steep climbs without too much resistance.
Once you determine how fast and far you want to ride, add another couple hundred watts so you can use those higher speeds when pedaling uphill.
If weight loss is your primary concern—and many people who buy e-bikes are trying to shed pounds—you might not need as much power; 300 or even 250 watts should be fine for everyday rides around town. How long will it take to charge a fat bike battery?
When it comes to charging time, fat bike batteries and normal ebike batteries both take around four hours or so. However, some fat tire e-bikes have larger battery packs and charge more slowly because of that.
So if you want a rapid charge-and-go experience, choose a fat tire ebike with a smaller battery pack. For most people, though, charge time under six hours is perfect. And remember—if your fat bike is equipped with a quick charger (like many models from Currie), an additional hour or two isn’t going to make much difference in overall charging times!
