Colton Willits would be embarking on his childhood dream when he begins studying at the US Air Force Academy located in Colorado Spring later in June.

The Air Force Academy accepted the application of Willits, who recently completed his graduation from Walhalla’s North Border High School, in the month of March. He would be starting instruction there on 27 June, following the footsteps of his great-grandfather, grandfather as well as uncles who all served in US military.

Willits’ desire of becoming an officer aroused due to visits he made at the Cavalier Radar Station when he helped his father, owner of an entertainment venture, put up events out there. He used to meet and interact with graduates of the Academy as well as many enlisted military personnel at the station. The influence they had on Willits made him take the decision of applying for the Academy. It isn’t an easy task for an Air Force Academy application to get accepted and needs a recommendation of a Congress member.  Willits application was recommend by former US Senator, Heidi Heitkamp.

Notably, Willits graduated successfully with an average grade point of 3.96 and was a 3-sport athlete during high school, competing in basketball, track and football. Moreover, he also was a National Honor Society member as well as a secretary of the Boys State.
