Prestigious Scottish golf club in leafy Beardsen has finally agreed to allow women to become its members. Since its establishment, the private golf club has been supporting only male membership. For many decades, the golf club had stuck to its old way of functioning and its members always voted against the call to introduce modern trends in it. A little time ago, youngsters below 18 years of age were given permission to become its members.
The prestigious golf club has been situated on the outskirts of Glasgow and was established in the year 1787. It is the ninth oldest golf club in the world and had only allowed men to become its members. Only the male members could play the parkland Killermont course in the exclusive suburb and its sister course in Irvine, Gailes Links.
In a recently conducted emergency meeting at the club, all the club members voted in majority to support the adoption of an open membership to allow ladies to join. They even signed up for the best golf ball retriever to make it easy for the players to continue their game. The members have finally followed the Muirfield-based Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. Many a time, the club has been into the news for its controversial approach on female membership.
The process of joining the Glasgow Golf Club is extremely strict and expensive. An application book needs to go throw a long process and requires a sign of six members before the conduct of the interview of an applicant. An applicant needs to pay an amount of 2000 pounds per annum along with a hefty joining fee.
