When you grow up dreaming of working for Disney or Pixar, you find a way to make all your dreams come true. Nick Collins, the founder of Sartoris Digital (previously Sartoris Technologies), took his big destiny to heart while paving a path to entrepreneurship.
Growing up in a technology-driven house, his love of computers was molded by a father and grandfather who instilled ethics of hard work with the power of thinking creatively.
“My grandfather was ‘old school’, helping me learn an appreciation for the craftsmanship of analog media and how that could be applied to the digital world,” explained Collins. “I was really into 3D animation in the mid-nineties, after the release of Toy Story, but was also learning HTML as I saw a lot of promise in this new thing called the World Wide Web.”
Collins’ grandfather worked in commercial printing, and Collins helped him to switch over from analog to digital, helping him learn QuarkXPress and how to operate a Macintosh computer. In return, Collins gained knowledge about the back end of the print industry, giving him the perfect recipe for combining digital technology with traditional marketing.
A Life-Long Love of Technology
Starting his first web design business in the 7th grade, Collins combined his love of making a story and brand come alive with strategic messaging and placement.
“When I started my business, I used the only phone number available to me as a 14 year old,” said Collins. “People were calling our home phone asking for me, and my parents didn’t know what they were talking about.”
Another accomplishment under Collins’ belt was his early adoption of Flash technology.
“I was using Flash before it was even called Flash,” he explained. “My uncle met someone at a computer convention that was handing out discs with a beta of their new digital animation software, named FutureSplash Animator at the time.”
Embracing the Internet and coding in its infancy, Collins went on to work for big pharma, major airlines, telecommunications, finance and sporting goods brands, which gave him a diverse set of skills to bring to his growing digital marketing firm. Focusing on web design and digital best practices, Sartoris Digital combines search engine optimization (SEO) and digital marketing with robust app development to give businesses all they need to be found and connect with new leads online and off.
“There is space for everyone in digital marketing and web design; that is the beauty of it,” stated Collins. “Anyone can have their niche, and I want to help guide people from an analog world, taking them into a digital space where they haven’t been before—a true transformation.”
As one of the first ‘design-geneers’, Collins merged his visual design and computer engineering background in a time when communication between the two fields was anything but easy. Acting as a liaison, he honed communication skills and disciplines just in time for Flash to end its run. And just like that, Collins knew it was time to make a leap.
Working at consulting firms and doing maintenance work as Flash transitioned out, Collins built his business from the ground up.
“I made an LLC and took a more technology-agnostic approach,” he said. “I knew my end goal, and I knew the technology, so it was time to finally put into practice decades of hard work.”
Spoiler alert: It paid off—in spades.
Sartoris Digital’s Legacy
The Latin word for ‘tailor’, Sartoris, is the thread that stitches solid online presence with lead development for the clients Collins’ serves.
“My services are tailorable to everyone, and that is the message I want to get across,” Collins explained. “Great businesses function best when they have a home base that builds trust.”
As a web designer and digital marketer for small to medium-sized businesses who want the expertise of a team that has worked with Fortune 500 companies, Collins’ business has elevated numerous companies and counting. All personalized and customized, his packages are offered a’ la carte or made to suit, ensuring all businesses have what they need to succeed.
Taking a customized, tailored approach in building the right software, presence, and marketing funnels., Collins describes his approach as almost like finding the right suit.
“Early on, you buy suits off the rack that never quite fit right,” stated Collins. “When I founded Sartoris Digital, I wanted to create a custom suit that fit any business, and we stitch together success by patiently taking the measurements, actively listening to what customers need and pulling it all together with decades of experience.”
One thread at a time, Collins is weaving a better strategy for every business he partners with.
