Maintaining Your Golf Equipment: 6 Things You Need to Know

Golf clubs, just like other sports equipment, wear out over time. In addition to maintaining them properly, you should store them correctly to protect them from further damage for the times of the year or season when you are not on the golf course. It is worth investing a little bit of time in learning how to do this to ensure your golf equipment remains in top shape for years.

Clean Your Golf Clubs Regularly and Properly

Golf clubs are an expensive investment, so you should protect them as such. One way to do so is to clean them regularly and properly. When on the golf course, carry a towel with you to clean the grips and heads, especially when it is hot and your hands get sweaty, or when it is raining.

Once you get home, clean them with warm water and mild soap. From time to time, use a soft brush instead of a cloth to make them even cleaner. Cleaning like this will ensure no residue that could damage them is left behind.

When choosing a soap or cleaner, ensure it is meant to clean equipment. Although rare, a soap or cleaner can damage the golf clubs, negating the need to clean them in the first place.

Do Not Leave the Equipment in Your Trunk

Leaving your golf clubs in the car can invite thieves, but that is not the only reason for not doing so. Many cars get hot, especially in the summer, and high heat is not good for your golf clubs. The high heat of the car’s interior can cause the glue used under the grips and the glue that attaches the heads to the shafts to break down. Additionally, the golf clubs might move around and get dinged as you drive, which can happen if you place heavy items on them, such as your shopping bags.

You Need to Get Your Golf Cart Serviced Regularly

A golf cart, just like any other mobility equipment, should be serviced regularly. Remember that you may drive that golf cart for a few miles on the course when you play a round, and then a few more miles if you use it elsewhere. For this reason, it undergoes wear and tear and requires regular maintenance. Both gas and electric vehicles require regular checks and maintenance, although how you go about doing that for both differs.

As with any other vehicle, you need to ensure that the mechanic uses original and high-quality parts if they need to do repairs, replace a part, or do some upgrades. There are reputable online platforms where you can buy original golf cart spare parts from different manufacturers like Yamaha and EZ-Go. You can also get all the repair and replacement parts for your electric golf cart if you own one.

Use Head Covers for Your Clubs

Woods, drivers and irons are highly susceptible to damage, especially if you store them for a long time. Head covers can help protect them from such damage. These covers are also useful when transporting the clubs in a car or golf cart. Even if they are less susceptible to damage, it is also a good idea to consider getting covers for your putters.

Inspect the Grips for Wear

Check the grips for wear when cleaning your golf clubs. Worn and slick areas will eventually crack; you want to avoid discovering this when you are just about to play a round. Replace these grips as soon as you notice any signs of wear, as the damage will only get worse when these signs start showing.

Properly maintaining your golfing equipment is relatively easy. Still, it can cost you a lot if you do not take it seriously. It is worth checking your equipment occasionally and getting your golf cart serviced regularly. These are the best ways to ensure both stay in excellent condition for years.
