Even dilapidated locations can be used to produce breathtaking shots in the hands of an exceptionally skilled photographer. Miami-based Luis Corchon, best known professionally simply as “LC”, is one example of one such individual. With his self-taught photograph and videography, he is able to shoot stunning photos and film with quality that far exceeds what one might expect from a neglected location.
Luis Corchon founded his full-service production studio, named LC Photo Studio, in 2019. He is known to take on only projects with themes that he has a personal interest in. These themes include mother nature, feminine beauty, fast vehicles, sports action, and the latest addition to this short list, electric vehicles.
The Aerojet-Dade Rocket Facility was abandoned more than 50 years ago, after the allocated $30 million budget dried up. The project was scrapped, and the property became a ghost town. It is home to Florida’s deepest human-made hole, and even now, the massive ten-story rocket lies undisturbed underground. The plant is six miles down a road that is inaccessible to most vehicles, and while the main parts are off-limits, the trail has been converted to a sanctuary that hosts bicyclists and joggers.
The time-worn location has not lost its impressive majesty despite years of neglect, and Luis Corchon took the rare opportunity to shoot at the facility. The main objective of the trip was to document Electric Lifestyle brand electric vehicles in extreme conditions, as the way to the facility included crossing several canals and evading the wildlife that roamed the area. The filmmaker, his team, and a team of riders who were invited for product testing took the electric vehicles to the Everglades and covered 14 miles in variable terrain.
Electric Lifestyle is a brand of electric vehicles that sells and repairs electric vehicles while manufacturing accessories for them at the same time. The company takes pride in its high-end electric vehicles and its dedication to maintaining their products even after consumers have bought them. The company’s quality-assurance process involves rigorous testing of their products to ensure excellence and customer satisfaction.
Luis Corchon is known for working to promote brands that he interacts with on a daily basis. His relatively-newfound passion for electric vehicles came after he liquidated his IT company and took a well-earned break to do some soul-searching. During this period, he discovered an interest in electrical products, and sure enough, soon after he learned riding electric for leisure, he began filming on his electric skateboard.
Filmmaking is a new venture for Luis, who previously worked in one of Washington DC’s most important private banks. “I could have been an economist, he says… I was surrounded by really smart financial minds who were pushing me to join their team. I am good at crunching numbers and making complex mathematical projections but I don’t enjoy a single moment of that process,” says the filmmaker. Despite his late start, he has found his true calling in the industry. “I had an itch for film since I was very young,” he says, “I would find myself daydreaming during movies about how each scene was made.”
Luis Corchon definitely found his place in the film industry, with each day spent doing work he loves on subjects he has a great interest in. His passion for the craft is evident in the quality of his outputs, and he continues to improve with each project he undertakes.
