It seems to be an unfortunate truth that the artists that have the most powerful art that can change the most people must have been through hardship themselves, but being able to connect with others on such a vulnerable and spiritual level is what propels many musicians, writers, and other artists to success.
That is certainly true of one signer: LeRoy Mobley.
LeRoy Mobley, best known for his 2018 single Better Together, has had a successful singing and acting career to date. He has performed at concerts all around the world, with features on the Sunset Strip in his hometown of West Hollywood, FOX’s Good Day New York, at the United Nations, at Broadwayworld.com, and a prolonged appearance at Tokyo Disney Sea’s Broadway show Big Brand Beat.
Of course, before all this success, LeRoy struggled. Born in the Philippines to war veteran parents, they made the move to the suburbs of Brandon in Florida when LeRoy was just 8 months old, to ensure he got a good start in life. He went to middle school in Tampa, where he met one of the most influential women in his life: Mrs Cunningham, his middle school teacher who encouraged him to share his gift with others.
In his youth, he embraced the arts, performing his singing in church, at school, and for lucky girlfriends, and learning to play the trumpet, guitar, and dance salsa and ballroom. It wasn’t until college that he faced true difficulties.
In his 20s, after graduating from the University of South Florida with a Batchelor’s in Psychology and a minor in Spanish (which he speaks fluently), he fell into a pit of depression. He struggled with suicidal thoughts and sexual addiction, and it wasn’t until a transformational miracle happened to him on December 28, 2010, that he found the path back to his faith.
Now, he dedicates himself to God, something that anyone who sees him perform can feel, regardless of their own religious beliefs. It’s this strong faith that has led him to create music that helps others strengthen their own connection to themselves, others, and spirituality, and led him to think of the bigger picture.
LeRoy now spends much of his time thinking about how to bring his vision to life by fighting fatherlessness, poverty, mental illness, and more of the world’s ills. He dedicates himself to charitable causes, two namely being Radiance International and Veteran’s Affairs PTSD.
In his spare time, LeRoy enjoys keeping fit in the area around his West Hollywood home, traveling to locations such as Australia, Italy, Hawaii, and the Dominican Republic, seeing all the world has to offer.
He’s now performing house concerts, and plans to embrace playing at Festivals once the world starts to return to normal. His musical influences are clear in his music: John Legend, Calvin Harris, DJ Khaled, Stevie Wonder, and other great names.
LeRoy’s dedication to others is truly inspiring, and after listening to just a few of his many uplifting tracks is all you need to get your day or week back on the right track. In times when it can be harder than ever to hold onto your faith, with the virus and the hatefulness of others so apparent in the world with other important movements, we need music and leaders like LeRoy to show us the right path.
