Meet King JBoi, a fantastic young hip-hop artist and owner of King JBoi Inc, from Memphis, USA. Making music and running his own company had been a dream for the brilliant and determined entrepreneur Jboi for many years, taking a lot of hard work and resolve to achieve it. JBoi said himself that the music industry can be a tough environment, facing many rejections causing doubt after doubt. In fact, Digital Music News suggest that 91% of all music artists are completely undiscovered, demonstrating how tough it can be to find success. Jboi hopes that his story will inspire other music artists to follow their dreams and give them advice on how to become successful.
Jboi has been writing and making music from a very young age, but recently he’s started to learn more about the business side of the music industry to help create his own music label. He says he was able to do this from the skills he picked up while building other small businesses. He also began working on non-profit organizations such as helping inner-city kids. This help him to launch his company, King JBoi INC, the parent company for all his business ventures.
Unlike a typical hip-hip artist, King JBoi dedicates a large portion of his time studying specific details and learning more about the industry, networking with key professionals and building a hard-working team in a way he thinks guarantees success. He ensures he has a full understanding of everything he does, such as learning every component from sound engineering to video production, allowing him to achieve his goals. He puts this himself by saying “as I’m self-managed, a lot of my time and energy is dedicated to not only making music but ensuring that the world hears the music”.
King JBoi said the music industry can be a tough environment, facing many rejections causing doubt after doubt. He lost money, relationships, key deals and even his mind on several occasions. However, when asked how he got to where he is now in such a competitive field he answered, “by simply being relentless and truly believing in my vision”. He said many people have dream they never follow through with, but it is something he always has done. “If you want it, then do whatever it takes”.
Tragically, his Mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and passed away weeks later in the midst of the pandemic, meaning he wasn’t allowed to be by her side in hospital. Despite such an unthinkable loss, JBoi insists it just made success that bit more imperative. In his owns word, “it ignited a fire in me to build a worldwide legacy”.
King JBoi’s latest album, Suburban Music, demonstrates this. It is filled with pain and recovery, and was given the title Suburban Music because he wanted to address the middle-class-demographic that can relate to coming from poverty to achieving what most did not believe was possible. The music is very mellow yet powerful in content, providing a lot of insight into his journey to success.
