Whether you have a little money or a lot, you can bring more luxury into your life. It isn’t always about spending more although sometimes it can involve that. It can come in the form of time as well as material goods. While it is inarguably indulgent, it is also a form of self-care. The tips below can help you bring luxury into your life in its many forms.
Identify Luxury
This word does not mean the same thing to everyone. Maybe you couldn’t care less what kind of car you drive, but you love the feeling of high thread count sheets. Some people eat to stay alive while others love indulging in well-prepared food. Maybe luxury is, to you, being able to read or watch movies in bed all day. Make a list of the many things that you would put in this category even if they are not all things that most people would call luxurious.
One Big Splurge
You may find that what you really want to do is spend your money on a single big item, whether that is a vehicle, a swimming pool or even a home elevator lift. A lift can be a particularly elegant addition to your home and can increase its value. As long as your home has at least two floors, residential elevator lifts can be installed in most homes. If your place has three stories, you will especially appreciate not having to run up and down stairs all day. Other ideas for a splurge might include remodeling your kitchen or buying a costly piece of art that you love.
Small Comforts
On the other hand, perhaps you are happy with scented candles, soft fabrics, and soothing music. You don’t need to spend a lot to feel pampered, and if this is the case, try to think of a lot of little things that would improve your quality of life. Other ideas include small amounts of gourmet food, quality soaps or a spa day.
Make Time
For many people, there will not be a single material luxury that can match that of time. This might mean time in the morning to exercise or read or soak in the bath before anyone else in your family is awake, or maybe it means a half day every weekend to do exactly what you want. Some people still struggle with guilt over making time for themselves in which they aren’t doing anything. If you are dependent on your calendar, make an appointment for yourself to do nothing just as you would for anything else.
Save
Maybe you are looking more at the long term. Financial security can feel like a luxury for some people, or perhaps you want to save and invest so that you have more money to spend later. Whichever it is, this can actually mean giving up many luxuries in the short run, so you may need to find some ways to compensate so that you don’t feel deprived. If you are the type of person who tends to compulsively save every penny, give yourself a break and buy yourself something indulgent from time to time.
