Success doesn’t come overnight; It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and grit. For Djeffson Athis, success seemed inevitable for him. Although talking about his success this early on would do a disservice to the amount of work he has put in. So his story needs to start from where it all began.
Born in Haiti, Djeffson Athis was more recognized as Nèg Ti Karòl La in his native hometown of Fonds-des-Nègres. As a young boy, he was forced to roam the streets of Haiti selling low budget ice cream called Ti Karòl. His mother, Roseline Athis, was also a small-time trader selling stuff on the street. Djeffson drew inspiration from his mother’s entrepreneurial spirit and went on and carried that inspiration throughout his entire life.
At the age of 16, Djeffson Athis stopped receiving pocket money from his mother. Though she would continuously pay for his school fees, everything else would have to be earned by Djeffson all on his own. To keep himself afloat, he took the initiative of selling Ti Karòl that he kept in his mother’s used refrigerator. To this day, he often recounts that story as his initial foray into the entrepreneurial world.
As his neighborhood resoundingly supported the young man’s small business, Djeffson gained some financial autonomy and a strong business mindset. This all happened while he was still in high school at the Lycée Toussaint Louverture in Port-au-Prince.
After spending a year studying computer science at INUQUA, Djeffson Athis left Haiti to go to the United States in 2009. He went to the land of opportunity, New York. However, life didn’t always start out great for the soon-to-be successful entrepreneur. “I lived almost everywhere, even in basements,” the young Haitian recalls.
It wasn’t until he got his first job in the city of Brooklyn as a stock boy that things would finally turn around for Djeffson. The first hurdle he had to face was the huge language barrier. He was in a state of cultural shock for the most part, yet he persevered.
He worked a full sales commission job even though his English was not up to par yet. However, he made sure to do the necessary work so that he could meet his personal demands and help his family in Haiti.
Djeffson recounts a vividly painful memory in his career. On November 18, 2011, he left his company due to some serious abuse and humiliation he received from a client. The client cursed him out and called him all sorts of names, which greatly discouraged Djeffson Athis to go on with his career.
Later down the line, Djeffson stumbled upon the words of the great American motivational speaker Les Brown. “You have greatness within you!” This particular line struck a chord in the Haitian entrepreneur’s life, which took a course for the better.
Fast forward to today, all of his success has accumulated into many successful companies, a strong brand presence in social media, and a loving family. In 2010, he became the father of a 2-month-old girl who gave his life a new direction economically. His daughter made him shift his focus toward establishing his own business and personal development. In 2015, he created Athis Enterprises, a company that works in partnership with Verizon, specializing in the sale of electronic and technological equipment.
In 2016, Djefsson Athis launched a Haitian product online known as Longbido, an aphrodisiac substance that saw a lot of huge success online. He managed to earn a sum of $1.2 million over a period of eight months while selling his products.
Nowadays, he teaches budding entrepreneurs through videos and live sessions on Facebook through Ti Karòl University, an educational business platform inspired by his first entrepreneurial venture. He built a dropshipping empire that’s worth over $2 million dollars, which continues to grow to this day.
The Haitian entrepreneur hasn’t forgotten his roots. He continues to pour in his support for the Haitian community financially, socially, and educationally. He is a true inspiration for everyone, and as he continues along his entrepreneurial path, he hopes that others will follow in his footsteps.
