The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in online education has been a major breakthrough, leading to more efficient and personalized learning experiences for students. AI-powered tools such as adaptive learning algorithms, virtual tutors, and personalized recommendation systems can provide real-time feedback, adjust the difficulty of the material to the student’s abilities, and offer personalized study plans. This has resulted in a more engaging and effective learning process for students, allowing them to learn at their own pace and achieve better outcomes.
The increased efficiency brought about by AI has certainly caught the attention of global players in the education industry, leading to a surge in investment and development in this area. With the use of AI, online education platforms can process vast amounts of data and provide insights into student performance, which can be used to improve the learning experience and optimize outcomes.
The increasing use of AI in online education has also led to some changes in the job market. With the automation of certain tasks, the demand for marketologists and copywriters in the education industry has decreased. On the other hand, the demand for professionals with expertise in AI and data analysis has increased, as these skills are becoming increasingly important in the development and implementation of AI-powered education technology.
Dmitry Yurchenko and Daniil Musatov, the co-founders of AXL EdTech, offer a snapshot of what the future looks like in terms of AI and educational technology. AXL is one of the leading global IT platforms for online education, and has seen huge success in multiple regions across the world.
“There are several key trends happening right now in the online education world,” says Yurchenko. “We’d love to share some of the cutting edge technology that’s already being implemented through the edtech space.”
Musatov adds, “Open AI sources, such as ChatGPT, are still fairly new; but they’re already making huge shifts in multiple spheres related to education and knowledge sharing.”
AI translation avatars
“To launch an online source in the current market, you no longer need to be a professional speaker – or even a new language,” says Yurchenko. He says that AXL is already using an AI avatar that automatically translates original video in English, Chinese, Spanish, or other common world languages.
“We call it Merlin,” says Musatov. “Not only does it transform your native language into any other, but it also adjusts the video to your voice timbre and syncs your lip movements as well.” He adds it will soon be able to automatically translate all the lessons uploaded to AXL into 50 languages.
“By June 2023, Merlin will be able to create a digital copy of you, which will record commercials and lessons based on scripts,” says Yurchenko. “At the same time, it smiles and expresses emotions depending on how you program it. The avatar is designed to appear lifelike and react in a human manner to build trust.”
AI in marketing
With AI, says the AXL team, you can now manage leads without a dedicated marketologist. “We ‘hired’ a virtual marketer that we call Johnny the Market Guru,” jokes Musatov. “It’s an AI protocol designed to generate leads; and, by behavioral characteristics, identify target audiences who are more inclined to make purchases.”
He says that Johnny can build predictive sales models and give recommendations on which lead to follow up on. It can act as an analyst and lead manager, identifying more successful advertising campaign strategies. “It’s a great option if you plan to scale your online business and grow dramatically,” Yurchenko shares. “You can grow in new markets with expanded options and better analytics.”
AI copywriter
AXL’s team says that the 1.0 demo of their AI copywriter, Mary-Fast-Scripts, will be able to create smart copywriting for selling landings, leads, and writing posts for blogs and websites. It can rewrite and compile existing text, and serve as an assistant that can sketch out ideas when human writers need a creative boost. “It’s still in development,” says Musatov. “But we’re excited about the potential.”
AI educational supervisor
“Last, but certainly not least, we want to discuss how to truly personalize education and ensure the highest completion rates with students,” says Yurchenko. “Over the next 2-3 years, we’re going to be implementing an AI supervisor that will be able to answer questions, check homework, highlight errors, give praise for correct answers, and encourage students to move further along the course.”
This is a dramatic change in the technology of online education: a personal touch without an actual person. It’s a smart, customized, and personable AI teaching protocol that can analyze student performance, identify bottlenecks in the course, and give recommendations to the instructor on what needs to be improved.
The future of AI
Musatov says, “There is also a space for a smart email sender who understands the recipients’ habits. It will analyze their preferences, i.e. when they usually check their email, how long it takes them to respond, and so forth. It’ll benefit both the sender and reader, with a more efficient delivery system.”
Both Musatov and Yurchenko say that in 5 years, both the AXL copywriter and supervisor will be able to combine their services and act as a virtual instructor that can interact with students. “A fantastic future is closer than you might think,” Musatov says. “At AXL, we strongly believe that it’s better to move forward now in order to be on-trend and ride these opportunities.”
