To say that Amber Iselt had a difficult start in her marriage is an understatement. What she initially thought would be her real-life fairytale turned out to be her life’s greatest nightmare that resulted in a gun pointed to her head, several miscarriages, and an uphill battle to get a divorce and custody of her two beautiful children. If anything, Amber is not just a survivor, she is a victorious woman who overcame domestic abuse and became every abused women’s champion when she finally rebuilt her life.
Born and raised in Central Texas, Amber Iselt knows what it is like to struggle financially as she saw her parents go through numerous challenges to raise her and her brother. What she is most thankful about is that they always had what they needed the most as her parents worked hard to be able to provide for them. At the age of 17, Amber ran away from home to be with the boy she thought was the love of her life. They got married when she turned 18. Unfortunately, it was not the life that she hoped she would have.
At the age of 19, Amber Iselt went into preterm labor with her eldest child while she suffered at the hands of her husband. The abuse almost cost her son’s life. The abuse continued even after she turned 20, and she was repeatedly told that she would never amount to anything. The night that she went into labor for her second child, she was hiding in the bushes at Brookshire Brothers in Rockdale, Texas. How she made it out alive with her two children is something that she attributes to God’s mercy and love.
“By the grace of God, I divorced at age 21 with custody of my kids. Believe me when I say that’s just a fraction of the nightmare. I was at rock bottom. My car was repoed, my credit was shot, I felt like a failure as a mother. I was broke and broken. I could barely afford diapers. It seemed like I would take 3 steps forward and 8 steps back. I thought my life was over at age 21,” Amber Iselt reveals.
What she thought was the end of the road for her and her children was, after all, the turning point. In her desire to ensure the survival of her children and be able to provide a good life for them, Amber Iselt made a firm decision to pluck herself and her children out of their miserable condition and took a risk at something she barely knew anything about.
“I took what little money I had to start my own business online at home all from my phone and cleared six figures within 8 months at age 23. I hit every obstacle you can think of, but I refused to give up. I was willing to do whatever it took to show my kids that you can achieve anything you want in life. You just have to go after it,” Amber Iselt explains.
Despite the pain, the trauma, and the memory of a difficult past, Amber Iselt found the courage to move forward. Not only is she able to provide for the basic needs of her children, but she is also becoming blessed beyond measure as she was able to bounce back from adversity.
Amber Iselt’s story is a testimony that ought to be heard by every woman who wants to break free from the clutches of domestic violence. She is showing abused women all over the world that life can still be better if only they take courage and take a step of faith.
