Small-town boy Jason Rorie grew up in Corinth, Mississippi, but he had dreams bigger than his town could hold. He bought his first computer, an entry-level consumer brand sold at Walmart when he was in high school—and it was love at first sight. Little did he know that he would be working with computers for the rest of his life.
After graduating from high school, Jason left home for the military in search of a new life and fresh opportunities to improve himself. Jason joined the U.S. Navy and left for boot camp in 1996. There, he officially began his career in tech and security as a Radioman/Information Systems Technician, where he held a Top Secret Security Clearance. A normal workday for him revolved around military cryptography and encrypted messages and communication circuits. Jason served two deployments to the Persian Gulf with a Mine Countermeasures (MCM) rotational crew, which uses technologies to find and clear mines from vital waterways.
In the military, Jason gained technical knowledge as well as experience in leadership, work ethic, and conduct, which greatly influenced his career and character. In his four years of service, he advanced from E1 to E5 (an enlisted sailor’s rate), earned Sailor of the Quarter during his tenure, earned an Enlisted Surface Warfare pin, and lastly, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. In 1999, he was chosen as the USS Pioneer’s Sailor of the Year. His military career left a fire in him that he would carry for the rest of his life.
He left the navy an improved man with big plans for his life. Jason attended technical schools to learn programming, network engineering, and other IT skills. He eventually worked toward a degree in computer network engineering and also a bachelor’s degree in technology management. As a student, he worked various jobs in the IT industry, from small business consulting up to enterprise support. He enjoyed helping small-business owners with their technology needs, and this planted in him the idea to establish his own IT consulting company.
Jason moved to Houston in 2006 to pursue his dream and wasted no time getting started on Elevated Technologies. It was a rough time for him—he had moved from a small town to the fourth largest city in the country where he had no friends, no family, and no contacts. Though others doubted him, he was determined to follow his plan.
Fast forward to now, and Elevated Technologies has risen to become an established, trusted provider of technology services. In 2015, Elevated Technologies was recognized on the Houston’s Business Journal’s Fast Tech 25 list and also the Fast 100, which lists all the fastest-growing companies in Houston in any industry.
Jason Rorie has recently shifted his focus to cybersecurity and has established two additional companies, Triad InfoSec and Cyber Security Insurance Group, to help small- and medium-sized business owners protect their businesses, their clients, and their reputations. His book, Cyber Security: Small Business—A Hacker’s Playground, reveals methods business owners can do to effectively protect themselves from the serious threat of hackers.
Jason has earned multiple certifications in cybersecurity as well as a master’s degree in information assurance and cybersecurity. From a young boy who started with an old computer purchased from Walmart to a leading expert in cybersecurity, Jason Rorie has come a long way in serving his country and helping his fellow Americans protect themselves and their businesses.
