The FLOW Foundation Inc. is the agent of balance in a world where women are disadvantaged, treated unequally, generally at risk, and are the major victims of domestic abuse. It is a non-profit organization and resource center established by Kisha Barrett for the sole purpose of keeping women alive. The news keeps reporting one unfortunate incident after another befalling women, and Kisha Barrett decided it was high time things like that stopped. The FLOW (For Lives of Women) Foundation is a resource center for domestic violence and prevention. Its main focus is on educating, assisting, and empowering women who have suffered any type of domestic violence. From sexual abuse to physical, emotional, and economic abuse, The FLOW Foundation is all about emancipating women all over the world.
Any type of abuse often leaves women displaced in one way or the other. And this is where The FLOW Foundation steps in. They help women with transitional housing, emotional support, and other things that can help such women live safely, be empowered and become self-sufficient. If the whole world is fighting domestic violence, The Flow Foundation Inc. is at the center of it.
The service acts of The FLOW Foundation do not end at providing resources, shelter, and legal assistance for disadvantaged women; the foundation is taking a holistic and spiritual approach. The main goal is to create a new peaceful, and comfortable atmosphere for women so they can grow and get stronger from within. The foundation organizes yoga and meditation classes, confidence-building and self-esteem workshops, self-defense training, and entrepreneurship classes. The goal is for women to get better than they ever were so they can be mentally and physically prepared to walk out of an abusive relationship.
The FLOW Foundation Inc. is for every woman or her loved ones who have been victims of physical, mental, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse. When asked about how the foundation fares better than the competition, Kisha Barrett says advocacy for women is not about who does it better. She wishes more organizations like FLOW will spring up in every part of the world to address the menace of domestic violence, which affects mostly women. Regardless of age, religion, sexual orientation, economic status, and nationality, anybody can be a victim; and that is why The FLOW Foundation Inc. is putting all hands on deck to address the issue head-on.
Kisha Barrett decided to start her foundation 12 years after her sister Kleo Barrett was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. It was an event that Kisha never recovered from because her sister was her best friend. Now, she believes that her failure to save her sister from such a tragic death will motivate her to save other people from meeting such fate. And in five years, she plans to open multiple locations throughout the state of Illinois and other states in the United States.
Women should feel safe, respected, and valued at all times, and The FLOW Foundation Inc. is working on ensuring this through its intervention and awareness programs geared toward educating everyone and raising funds to tackle the problem.
