The recent COVID-19 pandemic has affected many parts of the nation. Many areas, cities, and counties are starting to bounce back; some still struggle to contain the spread. One community that has been affected gravely in recent times is Camden County. In response to the crisis, fashion entrepreneur Ryon Reynolds is doing her part. The entrepreneur has pledged to provide hundreds of free face masks to people who need it most in the coming days.
Reports show that over 9,711 Camden County locals have contracted Coronavirus. Of the staggering number, 562 people have lost their lives. As cases rise, both public and private organizations are working together to curb and contain the spread. One private company that has stepped in is August The Collection, the fashion brand of Ryon Reynolds.
The fashion stylist and up and coming fashion entrepreneur grew up in New Jersey’s Camden Corridor. Ryon recalls how pleasant life was for her growing up in the community. “Life was always alive and in color,” shares the fashion icon. “There was so much to see and experience.” Ryon attributes much of her success to family and the community, quick to tell tales such as when her family bought her her first sewing machine.
Today, the New Jersey-born fashion startup founder of August The Collection plays a significant role in her hometown. Ryon Reynolds has partnered with City of Camden’s Family Services to create and distribute hundreds of masks to people in Camden County. She hopes that by providing these masks, people will have a far greater chance of avoiding contagion resulting in lower daily reported cases.
The simple project is also a reflection of the company’s greatest inspiration, Mr. Ryon C. Reynolds, the founder’s father, who was a very generous man. August The Collection pays tribute to Mr. Ryon’s life, who was born in August. His daughter and the CEO of the up and coming fashion brand attests to her father’s servant leadership. “He did not mind getting his hands dirty.” shares Ryon. “He was always the star of my galaxy. I am inspired by his undeniable influence.” Today, Ryon Reynolds has set her mind on creating a brand that will celebrate her father and his kindred spirit.
Ryon moved Camden, New Jersey to Staten Island, New York. She worked her way up the fashion ranks staring as a stylist in Forever 21 fitting rooms and later becoming an assistant to top fashion executive at Ralph Lauren. Ryon is a real student of the game. “I am just an average girl from Camden, NJ who had a dream and went for it.” shares Ryon. “Now, I hope to encourage the next average girl who thinks the odds are against her to just go for it!”
As a brand, August The Collection carries a positive message. The company creates garments that will complement any woman’s best features, instilling a level of self-love in all the company’s patrons. Each item accents the best features no matter what a person’s color, body type, or size might be.
Even though Ryon Reynolds has come very far from where she started, she is not the type to forget her roots. She hopes to help more people in Camden, especially in these unprecedented times.
