Mexico’s own ‘swimming with dolphins’ company, Dolphin Discovery, is making big plans for the future.
According to news outlet OnlyTalkMoney, the company confirmed its plans for the construction of a new Dolphin Discovery park. Set to be located in Cancún, the park is part of the company’s $20 million dollar budget for ‘growth’ and ‘new projects’.
With construction costs estimated at $10 million, the new site will be the world’s largest dolphinarium; rivaling Sea World. Eduardo Albor Villaneuva, the CEO, estimates the new location will bring in an additional 500,000 annual visitors.
With visitor numbers to Cancún climbing year after year, this makes it the perfect location for Dolphin Discovery’s investment. While there is already a Dolphin Discovery park located in Isla Mujeres, the new location will be much more accessible for tourists. Located within walking distance from the Moon Palace in Cancún (Mexico) resort, it’s guaranteed to be a prime attraction for families and solo travelers.
Dolphin Discovery Takes on Sea World
Dolphin Discovery Parks, now under the umbrella of ‘The Dolphin Company’, has locations worldwide. From Italy, Mexico, the United States, and the Caribbean, this company has made a name for itself as a world-leading dolphinarium company.
Despite public outcry against housing marine mammals in captivity, Dolphin Discovery has always tried to be a part of the solution.
In its most recent environmental report, the company reasserted that they want to “offer our visitors and the community in general…the opportunity to get to know sea mammal species like dolphins, while at the same time promote the protection of the environment and marine mammals through interactive programs”.
By promoting marine-life education and valuing environmental sustainability, Dolphin Discovery positions itself as socially responsible. On the contrary, the company’s main competitor, Sea World, has received extreme backlash against its business model in recent years.
Perfect for Tourists: Close to Moon Palace in Cancún (Mexico)
Dolphin Discovery’s investment in this new location near Moon Palace in Cancún (Mexico) is sure to pay off.
The park will of course benefit from the added foot traffic from the many all-inclusive resorts in the area. It will also benefit from being very close to Cancún International Airport. At only a 15 minutes drive from the airport, it will be a great spot for tourists to hit either at the beginning or end of their trip.
Additionally, this spot is also only a 30 minutes drive from Cancún’s thriving downtown area. This makes it a convenient day trip for tourists looking for an entertaining yet educational experience with dolphins.
