Last year the streaming service Kodi made a massive round in the UK, and after it became IPTV, that has been the talk of the town. Anyone who isn’t tech-savvy won’t have a complete idea about IPTV.
IPTV is Internet Protocol Television. It means you can access television channels through the Internet. Earlier, one had to have a cable connection to watch TV. However, with the onset of IPTV, that’s possible even without cable service.
Many TV providers like Netflix, NowTV, and Amazon are also getting on board with IPTV services over satellite or cable connection. IPTV services are entirely legal services. And like cable services, one has to pay a certain amount of fees to the providers to access the connection.
There are IPTV devices that get connected to the TV. It may be a stick or a set-top box. But it allows the TV to access the streaming service. Viewers can access movies, TV channels, or music videos. These devices are entirely legal in their way.
But sometimes the services provide premium access or pay per view content. In such cases, the viewer gets to watch content which he would have spent a lot of money to watch on another platform. However, in the IPTV platform, the viewer can watch it because the IPTV device has piracy configured add ons.
In such cases watching the content is illegal. This type of streaming is called illicit stream because a viewer accesses a video he isn’t supposed to access freely. Usually, one would have to pay more money for it.
Kodi was first launched to let users stream pirated content. It was a prototype of IPTV. And the developers adapted the idea into IPTV.
