Memorial Day is upon us and so are the deals many companies are offering. But while it is always nice to get a good deal, it is even better to know that your money is going towards a good cause, which is the case with American fashion accessory company, Headbands of Hope!
The company, which started in 2012 by then-College student Jessica Ekstrom using savings from an internship she had with Disney, has since gone on to celebrate now 10-years and help over 1 million children with illnesses.
It doesn’t get more American than that!
For every headband sold, a headband is donated to a child with cancer, and other funds are donated to various charities across the United States. And for Memorial Day, the company is running some great promotions with their Americana Collection, which is inspired by the American spirit.
We caught up with Jessica just before the holiday weekend to find out more about her company, paying tribute to those who have fallen and her own weekend plans!
What are the best selling items currently from the Americana collection for this Memorial Day holiday so far?
Currently our best selling items from our Americana Collection are our American Darling Scrunchie, Denim Daze Knot Headband, and our White Linen Headband. My personal favorites though are our American Tube Turban because it’s a classic and the Rodeo Headscarf in red, white and blue because it is super on trend! In fact, our Americana collection is one of our top 5 collections year round! This shows that our customers are proud to be Americans, just like our team.
Members of the Headbands of Hope team have partners that served in the military. Why is remembering the military so important during this holiday and the ultimate sacrifices that were given?
Memorial Day has a special place in the hearts of Headbands of Hope’s team members. Every team member has a close family member who has served their country. Specifically, President of Headbands of Hope, Lauren Dellinger’s father, Tom served as a Drill Instructor in the United States Marine Corps and Direct of Key Accounts, Katelyn Randall’s husband served in the Air Force as an Avoinic’s Specialist. While these family members are still with us today, we recognize why it is so important to remember our military during Memorial Day. The men and women who serve our country give the ultimate sacrifices so that we have to live in the land of the free and that is something we do not take for granted.
Why are you proud to be an American-based company?
Headbands of Hope is proud to be an American-based company because I personally watched my dad start his company when I was a kid and it showed that it could be possible for me to do so as well. I’m so glad I live in a country where women can start businesses and our dreams can be realized.
What will you be doing this Memorial Day?
For Memorial Day this year, I’ll be spending some time at the beach and taking some time to honor and remember those who served.
