Humans face the converging storms of environmental devastation, climate crisis, pandemic, and global poverty. It is time that we reclaim power and prioritize human rights and planetary interests. Danish philanthropist and global thought leader Jonathan Tjoa Algreen uses his influence to create an impact and play a key role in global poverty eradication.
Jonathan recognizes the power of business to create a better tomorrow for all. It can help in eradicating poverty, creating a greener and more balanced planet. According to him, most of the world’s wealth, skilled labor, and innovations are in the clutches of the business community. Some of the wealthiest people in the world are business owners, investors and entrepreneurs. So why is the real change expected from the government and the politicians?
He believes that most of the time, real change does not come from politics. In reality, it comes from the people, the consumers, and the businesses that aspire to drive a positive change in the world by solving world issues. This is the reason for the business being so effective and impactful.
He shares his vision in the following words.“My vision is to use business in a direct way as a force for good. I hope more businesses will have an approach that puts people and the planet first. I do my part by implementing a strong socially responsible, and sustainable approach in my businesses. I truly believe that the future of business is the combination of being both profit-driven and taking a deeper and more comprehensive responsibility for both humanity and the planet.”
Jonathan acquired the skills of an entrepreneur as a young man when he was able to scale his first business at the age of 22 in Denmark. He launched and scaled many more businesses thus gaining the reputation of a serial entrepreneur with tremendous leadership skills. Although he belonged to a lower-middle-class family, he has risen himself onto the ladder of success and wealth.
Today, he is the CEO of 1 People, a luxury sustainable brand, and the owner of Impact Business Investment Group, which plays a huge role in empowering and funding impact driven startups, providing jobs to thousands of people. His passion to be a part of the change to eradicate world poverty is further observed in his new program, Business for Planet, which is educating and training new entrepreneurs across the world, free of cost.
Jonathan takes heed of the wise words of Thomas Pogge.
“We should not think of poverty eradication as a matter of collecting money and giving it to the poor so much as of reforming the global rules that are disadvantaging the poor and making it impossible for them to fend for themselves.” – Thomas Pogge
