Along with the rise in popularity of hip-hop in modern culture is street fashion’s emergence as an industry phenomenon. The freedom to self-expression that is essential in hip-hop became the core of street fashion. Self-expressing individuals used to be the outsiders of society with their tendency to go against societal norms. Today, however, establishing one’s identity through music and fashion has become the mainstream, and street style has evolved into street fashion as it is now.
CreatorsTV is an American fashion digital subscription video on demand (SVOD) network dedicated to exhibiting the work of streetwear designers to the public. Videos from this platform are available on multiple video-streaming applications, including RoKu, Firestick, and AppleTV.
CreatorsTV is a division of Street Society, which is a collective and accelerator program established that nurtures aspiring streetwear fashion designers, empowers them, and guides them to transform their passion into sustainable businesses. Moreover, it also consists of Street Fashion Week, the world’s only platform for Streetwear designers. SFW has developed an all-star roster of over 140 creatives, and during New York and LA Fashion Week, a fashion show is held to showcase the work of these highly talented designers.
Through its three divisions, Street Society immensely contributes to the promotion of street culture and the work of streetwear designers. Operations typically run all year round, but the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the misfortunes it brought have negatively impacted planned events. Thus came the idea of CreatorsTV—if people could not come together for Street Fashion Week, then why not make a way to bring Street Fashion Week to them virtually?
Behind the conceptualization and creation of all these esteemed ventures is Naomi Alabi. It is not an exaggeration to say that this New York-based entrepreneur is responsible for developing the current and upcoming generations of streetwear designers.
As a first-generation Nigerian-American raised by a single parent who had little mastery over the American culture, Naomi Alabi had her fair share of hurdles. Coming into the creative industry had been a massive challenge, and she did not understand the specifics of what the path to a successful career entails.
Still, dreams are difficult to smother, and she had always known that a career in fashion is the only acceptable option for her. She took a risk and started her business. Today, Naomi Alani takes pride in the growth of the Street Society.
Currently, CreatorsTV is being built and developed to become the go-to resource for content highlighting the stories of successful entrepreneurs. Eventually, it is set to transition from documentary-style content to bigger and more extravagant productions.
Naomi Alabi serves as a beacon of hope, proving that one’s roots do not determine their end destination. She entered the industry with nothing but her passion and creativity. Now, she has achieved a level of success with Street Society that allows her to provide opportunities for others who had been in her position. Day by day, her continual growth and unwavering determination only serve to inspire aspiring designers and entrepreneurs.
