Are you looking to make lots of money? Are you seeking more recognition and status? Are you working towards being more healthy and happy? Or are you simply looking for more peace of mind and freedom? These are some of the most fundamental questions that Dr Stefan Gospodinov (DC) asks his clients before helping them tap into their full potential and optimize their life for true success.
“There are millions of people in our modern society who are blindly striving for ‘success’ every single day. They read every new book that comes out, listen to podcasts, spend thousands on attending seminars and workshops, and do all manner of things in order to be successful. There is nothing wrong with being that way, however, achieving the wrong kind of success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure”, says Dr Stefan.
One of the biggest challenges that Dr Stefan sees in his Coaching practice is that people spend their whole lives striving towards ‘success’ without even knowing and defining what that means to them and their families.
As performance and productivity coach, Dr Stefan specializes in helping highly functioning executives and companies to live up to their potential and perform better under stress without experiencing burnout.
In this article, you will discover what the science says about success and what some of the common traits are of truly successful people. As an expert in the field of self-development and self-actualisation, Dr Stefan shares the top five tips on how to be highly successful:
1. Overcome Self-Sabotage – one of the key traits of highly successful people is the ability to not let limiting beliefs get in the way. That’s not to say that successful people don’t experience self-doubt and thoughts of self-sabotage don’t cross their mind. But they have learned to manage this phenomenon more effectively. One of the key reasons people self-sabotage is a lack of self-esteem. Low self-esteem can have many different causes, but the effects are the same … feelings of incompetence and the belief that you don’t deserve success.
How Dr Stefan Defeats Self-Sabotage (and how you can too):
1.1 Recognize Your Self-Sabotaging Behaviors: To stop self-sabotage, you first need to recognize your own self-sabotage patterns.
1.2 Understand The Emotions That Lead To That Behavior: For example, you may have deliberately left a report unfinished because your boss or business partner blanked you in the corridor, and this made you angry and upset. The event triggered the emotion, which in turn led to a self-defeating action.
1.3 Change The Thoughts, Emotions, And Therefore Behaviors: As you become more self-aware of the negative emotions and thoughts which often come and go automatically after a certain event. The “event” is the external factor that you cannot control, you have to accept that. But what you do have control over is the way you respond to that external event. Next time you feel a certain negative thought or emotion coming in, before you “act” which is the behavior, pause, take a deep breath in, and ask yourself “What is the potential outcome likely to be in a reaction ‘X’ way versus ‘Y’ way”
2. Consistent AM Ritual – This point is going to be a game changer for you. Many of us start the day with a ringing alarm clock, a big cup of coffee and a quick check of our email. But if you analyze the morning habits of very successful people, that’s exactly what they don’t do. Highly effective people set the scene for a successful day first thing in the morning. Doing the following will help you reduce stress and decision fatigue.
How Dr Stefan Designs His Actual Morning Routine:
2.1 Wake up at the same time each day – this is very important for your cardium rhythm.
2.2 Exposure to bright light – this is extremely important to help reset your body and brain and allow you to have an effective start to your morning.
2.3 Rehydrate – Drink 250-500ml of water as soon as you can. This will help your brain rehydrate and will improve cognition. Delay caffeine for an hour after waking up.
2.4 Move – The benefits of moving your body in the morning are tremendous. It could be a 5 minutes gentle mobility work and stretching, a 15-20 mins walk, or a workout in a gym setting.
2.5 Strategic Planning – This task shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes but in return, it will pay massive dividends. Prioritize your tasks and schedule when exactly you will do them – be sure to place that dedicated time in your calendar or diary.
3. Protect Your Time – start to pay more attention to how you spend (or waste) your time. The more successful you become, the more people will want your time. So, one of the most effective strategies with Time Management according to Dr Stefan is to “Learn To Say No Like Your Life Depends On It”. The time we have on Earth isn’t infinite – this means it will all come to an end one day – for all of us. People who are on top of their game know when, who, and what to say YES to, but more importantly, when to use the word NO even more effectively. You don’t have to be rude, you just have to start valuing and protecting your most important asset- your time.
4. Focus On One Thing – Successful people know that anything in life is possible, but only you focus on one thing at a time. You can spread your energy too thin by going after too many things at the same time. As a result, you don’t end up achieving much. Truly successful people are able to achieve great things in life, in their career, and their overall performance – but only because they become good at focusing on one thing at a time. Once they master it, then they can move on.
5. Don’t Forget To Enjoy The Journey – When talking about success, people can often get lost in chasing the wrong ‘stuff’. Dr Stefan calls this “Being Stuck In The Hamster Wheel”. Also, let’s not forget that being successful in any aspect of your life and being consistent with it, is hard … very hard. Therefore, use this as an opportunity and a reminder to enjoy the journey. Far too many people chase the material things and when they ‘get there’, they often realize that it wasn’t fulfilling. Instead, Dr Stefan recommends that you might want to focus on falling in love with the journey. The end results will come as a by-product of your hard work and commitment.
